The Esporles municipal sports center and swimming pools project is designed in a complex triangular plot located in a new extension of the town. The project is part of a joint municipal project, where in addition to creating the new sports center, the existing nursery is expanded. In the nursery, on the adjacent plot, we have designed volumes that annex the playground with the pool area of the sports center. Moreover, the proximity of the Esporles mountains find a material and formal dialogue of angular stone geometries in the building. The layout of the building, set back towards its northern boundary, has the space of the three multipurpose rooms on the first floor overlooking the pools. The water reflection floods the spaces with light. Lighting has been designed as a barcode, marking a rhythm and dynamism inherent to the activities developed in the center. The entire facade of the building has been treated with gray phyllite veneer, with metallic reflections, free length and deployé sheet sliding shutters that filter light. The ground floor houses locker rooms and a cafeteria. The interior of the building is submerged in the aquatic environment of the pools, flooded by the turquoise green of walls and ceiling. The exterior space is finished with a continuous, porous, gray pavement. The building displays a coherent, contextualized, and functional architecture. In the architectural design of the building, we have included sustainable and efficient solutions to minimize the energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions during its construction. Architects: Alfonso Reina Location: Esporles, Balearic Islands, Spain Client: Town Hall of Esporles Technical Architect: Fermín Alava Project Area: 785 m2 Project Year: 2013
