This landscape project suggests an alternative way to visually and functionally upgrade a ground-level free space of a common building on pilotis. The main question answered is how to combine outdoor activities and uses of different spatial needs and privacy grades (e.g. parking space, barbeque, outdoor dining and living-room, pedestrian entrance to the building) using architectural as much as natural elements (water, plants, ground) to create “outdoor rooms”. The geometry of the outdoor spaces follows the 45° rotation of the building in the rectangular shape of the plot, that drifts the direction of paths, the limits of different materials on the ground and the shape of water surfaces and green areas. The plant species selected are suitable for the climate of Athens, the urban environment and in most cases shade tolerant, as they are planted close to the building by walls, steps or paths.
