The requirement of the client was consisting of a small cabin for guests. It was thought as an element that stands on the ground with almost no intervention of it. For the same reason it was thought in 2 stories. That way less surface deals with the ground. The project is a 540cm cube (exterior measure) of wooden structure with two stories inside. It is thought as a housing with low energetic consumption, so special care was taken in deciding the orientation, the interior color, the window’s locations and the isolation. This last feature of the isolation material is the most important and gives the façades and the entire project a very special look. Bales of straw coated with mud were used for the walls, due to its high thermal efficiency and for being an abundant material in the area. These are protected from the rain by transparent polycarbonate plates, which show the internal materiality. Waved zinc at the top and bottom of the walls was used to cover the unions. The roof is considered a 5th façade for it’s also visible. For that reason it was turn into a green cover, with grass, which prevents the wind to hit directly the surface, taking away heat from it. The location of the windows was designed to allow as much sun light as possible in the interior during the winter and crossed flow of air to ventilate it in summer time. The interior is painted all in white, in order to let the natural light coming from the windows bounce in the interior walls and diminish the needing of using artificial light.
