Replacing the hospital parking lot, the new building includes new surgery facilities, sterilization chambers, rehabilitation, etc. These new areas are developed following a spine scheme with one row of different wings, connected with the existing hospital through a corridor. Below the new building, three floors hold the underground parking and the electrical equipment. The emergency room access is located in the new ground level, which is used as an open square. The new square is connected with the surrounding streets through a sort of faceted parterre. The new extension cohabitates with the preexisting hospital from the 1970’s by using a different style. Bush-hammered concrete panels, U-glass façade and corrugated aluminum sheet, perforated or regular are used to reveal this differentiation. The outdoor floor surface is finished with textured or smooth concrete. All technical systems are located in the upper level. Air treatment, refrigeration, heat accumulators, etc. forming independent volumes covered by a saw-tooth roof. The necessary compactness of a surgical program is lighten by courtyards with glass cladding. Functionalism is essential in a hospital program. It involves the creation of a compact mesh, backup routes, interlocking doors and patients and medical segregate circulation. The new building is connected with the pre-existing hospital by nine skyways distributed in three levels. Competition: 2005 Project: 2006 - 2010 Construction: 2010 - 2014 Area: 49.000 m2
