In collaboration with the Slovak network of gas stations studio SAD has completed its second implementation. In the city of Danajská Streda a strictly ascetic functionalist building of the gas station on a minimal area and minimum landed costs was built. Despite this, the main element of the project is the generous roof, constructed from thinned concrete and carried only by delicate metal pillars. The elegant curve inspired by modernism completely giving into its raw nature that covers the whole gas station is visually and spatially lightened by round glass holes. The self-supporting structure is completely missing gutters so that the water naturally flows down the concrete surface and gradually creates a natural patina on its surface. The kiosk, which is assembled from standard black alucobond panels with surface profiling is minimized to the smallest possible area and fits under the slanted concrete roofing.
