The building Lewehof stands in a small village in the most northern tip of the Netherlands. Here, where young people often leave towards the big cities and where the villages get empty, an enthusiastic client saw the opportunity to bind young people to the village with alluring homes. Start-ups and young families live here near the village centre. The building blends seamlessly into an extremely parochial scale, but yet it is special.
The vacant lot is optimally used. Where normally one or two families would live, in this building there is place for 11 apartments. The floor plans are therefore with 15m extremely deep.
Particular attention was paid to the integration of the building in the picture of the street, which is not an everyday context. The solution is a design of two characteristic orange red houses with a dark roof, characteristic horizontal lines and even a classic front yard. But everything is detailed tight. Offset frames, striking dormers, horizontal steel sections in the façade and typical ornamented fences of punched metal. This makes Lewehof a building of this time that fits easily into the traditional North Holland context.
